All right, GM, GA, G, everybody. Welcome to what's going to be another great DevNTell. So if you didn't know, DevNTell is a 30-minute window for builders to showcase something they're passionate about or been working on in Web3. This could be an awesome project you've been working on, demonstrating you testing best practices, automation goodies, smart contracts, how to structure a project, etc. Basically, if you've got a passion for something, this is your opportunity to share with the community.

And today, I am ecstatic to have on Franklin, who will be going over his project called Web3Collectives. Welcome, Franklin.

Thank you. Thank you for having me. So today, I'll be talking about my side project, Web3Collectives, and the inspiration behind the idea.

Beautiful. I guess before we get into that, do you want to give a brief introduction about yourself and how you got into Web3 and Developer DAO?

Okay. I'm Franklin. I am a front-end developer. I also do a bit of design and technical writing. I also contribute to open source.

So I have been in the Web3 space for about close to two years now. I joined late 2021.

So the way I got into Developer DAO was, I was seeing a lot of tweets about Developer DAO on Twitter, so I followed Developer DAO Twitter handle.

So I also joined the Discord channel, but I noticed that it was a gated community. Then I one day I reached out and put a comment that I can't access the full, the complete channel, I can't have access to the DAO community.

So I was gifted a free NFT to join. That was early 2022.

Excellent. Yes, love that you're part of the group here and awesome background story there. I guess do you want to get right into it?

Okay, that's cool. Okay, so I prepared a slide, but it's not long, it's just a little slide I prepared at the end. Okay.

Web3Collectives. This is the interface. So Web3Collectives is a free library of over 200-plus resources on varying topics like smart contract deployment, building decentralized applications, cryptography fundamentals, and lots more.

The purpose of this project is to be a gateway to Web3 knowledge. So if you are looking for resources on smart contract development, Web3 books, tutorials, documentations, name it. Then when you get to this website you can see a lot of them and different categories, both beginner level, intermediate and advanced level. So the aim of this project is to open access to blockchain education and learning opportunities in the Web3 ecosystem. Sorry for the little typo here.

So I built this project using the following technologies: React.js, Vercel, React-Router, Firebase for data storage, and Formspree for management of forms.

So it has the following features: a search input where you can enter any keyword, you can enter Web3, you can enter Ethereum, Bitcoin, cryptography, name it. Any keyword and you'll see a resource under that keyword.

It also has a sort button. I'm going to show a little demo after this, the demo that will show how this works, all these features, how they work. So and also have the filter button, you can filter all these resources based on your level of experience, let's say beginner or intermediate or you are an experienced developer in Web3, so you can easily go there based on your level of experience.

We also have the section where you can submit the form if you have any resource that is not existing there already, just submit a form or maybe submit an open issue on GitHub or send me feedback. The project's not yet open source but with time, or maybe after this call, I'm going to make it open source for contributions.

Okay, okay. I said okay like I was saying, these are the features. So apart from the filter button, we also have a section, a form where you can add any resource. We also have another feature: the light and dark mode feature.

Okay, here it is, Web3Collectives. This is the homepage.

So this is the input field, you can enter any keyword and search for any resource.

These are the categories. Here is the filter button, you can filter based on beginner resources, intermediate resources, advanced resources.

Then this is the sort button, you can sort based on the oldest resource that was added on this website or the latest, or sort them based on ascending or descending order.

So we have different categories here. We have websites, we have YouTube channels.

We have development tools, we have online courses.

We have interactive tutorials, gamified tutorials, some games. We have documentations, we have GitHub repositories.

We have project starter templates and node providers, RPCs.

And we also have books. This is the repository footer. So let's go up.

So all these resources on Web3Collectives, they are all free. They are not paid resources, they are free resources. And they are some popular courses and some less-known courses for all levels are here.

Consensys Academy, Ethereum.org, Questbook, Buildspace, Web3Learn, The Blockchain School, Kerala Blockchain Academy. You know some of these, some of these are very popular, like LearnWeb3 DAO, it's a very popular online Web3 resource.

These are all of them, for every blockchain, even Solana blockchain, Ethereum blockchain. So under YouTube channels, we have these are some popular recommended resources on YouTube that you can find.

Under the development tools, we have Remix, Solidity, MetaMask, Web3.js, Hardhat, OpenZeppelin, Web3.py for Python programmers. So these are all resources under development tools.

There's online courses, some popular online courses, both on YouTube and Udemy. These two resources are available on YouTube.

Then under these interactive tutorials we have these are Web3 games. You learn by playing games, learn blockchain development, smart contract development by playing games. These are some of the popular interactive tutorials or games on Web3.

So here are documentations, tutorials, also some documentations, they are all listed under these categories.

So I just did a collection of every resource on the internet, so I brought them together on this website and arranged them based on their categories and also experience level. So we also have some GitHub repositories listed here under these categories. So when you click on any resource, it will redirect you just like this, it will take you to the GitHub repository of that resource.

These are starter templates if you want to build a Web3 project, instead of starting from scratch you can use some of these templates, go to GitHub and clone the repository and start working on any project of your choice.

These are node providers, help connect to the blockchain.

Then these are some books. I still want to add some resources on this website.

So this is the contact page, contact page of Web3Collectives. If you have any feedback or you want to add any resource or just want to contact me for anything, or you want to contribute to the project, you can just come here and send me an email.

You can go back to this section, contribute page. Do you have any resource? Let's say any resource on Solana, just write the name of the resource, let's say Solana, the category, is it a YouTube channel or GitHub repository, you type it here, then you share the link, the URL. Let's say www.solana.com, something like that. You just submit, then I'll receive the email and then add it to the project.

We also have this feature, newsletter. I'm still working on it. This is a newsletter, when you subscribe to our newsletter you will get any latest resources, new resources and any updates on blockchain networks, whether Ethereum, Solana, Tezos, Celo, name it. You get latest resources update using links to tutorials or blog posts on Web3.

Then go back to the GitHub repository, which is this. This is the GitHub repository. As you can see, it is still private. I'll still make it open source after this call, for this reason, I'll make it open source.

This is a project overview. These are all the categories like I stated earlier on, these are the categories: website, YouTube channels, development tools, online courses, interactive tutorials, documentation and the rest of them.

All the resources listed on this website, they are hard-coded. So they only have a dedicated data where I store them, so they are hard-coded. I hard-coded all these resources.

Just like this one, for instance, Ethereum.org. When you click on it, it will redirect you to the website. You can see, these are tutorials or resources on Ethereum.org. Same thing with every other listed resource here.

So these resources were hard-coded in this form, in JSON format, just like this form. So I'm still looking for a way to improve this project. So if you have any idea, maybe you can just DM me or when I make this repo public, I'll just open an issue and make contributions.

So this project was built with React. This is where the data is stored, all those resources are stored right here, in the data directory.

So these are in JSON format, so just like here you have books. These books, when you go to Web3Collectives, under this category, books, this is stored here, on this books.js. So they are hard-coded. So this is it, as you can see.

I'm still looking for if there is any way or suggestion that I can improve this project, I will appreciate that. So online courses, development tools, documentation, games, GitHub repositories, and the rest of them, this is where they are all stored. So this project was built with React.

So let's say you're looking for any resource, let's say you're looking for a resource on Ethereum. You can just get to this input field, type Ethereum, press enter key, or click on this search button. When you click on Ethereum it's going to search for resources that have any tutorial or material, Web3 material on Ethereum.

I don't know what's going on. Okay, let's say I'm looking for Buildspace, let's type Buildspace. The moment you type it, it's going to filter. So as you can see, it showed me Buildspace website. Let me click on it.

And this is the Buildspace website. So let's go back. It also has another project template on Buildspace. So based on the keyword I entered, it's going to filter the resources and show me what I need.

Maybe I'm looking for crypto, type crypto, search.

It showed me online resources on crypto cryptocurrency. So here are Ethereum.org, you can learn about cryptocurrency on these resources as well, even crypto lectures. So that's how it works.

So let me talk about the filter button. You filter based on level of experience: beginner, intermediate. I click on beginner, as you can see, it filtered beginner-friendly resources on the internet. So some of these resources are beginner-friendly, they teach you the basics of Web3 blockchain development, cryptocurrency, DAO, decentralized finance, and the rest of them. So these are some of the popular beginner-friendly resources.

So if you're looking for advanced resources as well, you go here, click advanced. So these are some advanced resources for YouTube channels, people that want to build. So I have not yet worked on the sort button where you can sort it based on ascending or descending order, based on maybe the latest resources that was added here or the oldest resources. So I will add that later on. So that's all, narb.

This is awesome, Franklin. Thank you so much for taking the time to build this extensive resource set. I guess have you gone through all of these resources that you've listed? Or what's your method of accepting something to come on to your Web3Collectives page?

Okay, first of all, any resources you are recommending or adding here should be free, because the purpose of this Web3Collectives is to champion access to free Web3 education. So instead of looking for instead of paying for courses in dollars, $2,000 or so, we are looking for resources that will teach you everything from beginner level to advanced level for free. So the resources must be free and it must not have been added here already. If it doesn't exist on this website and it's free, the resource will be accepted. It should be Web3, should be based on Web3, smart contract development, blockchain technology.

Gotcha. So resources have to be free and high quality for people all over the globe to be able to access and learn.

And what in your tagline there, you have 'Learn, Build, and Earn'. How can people earn? Or is that something to be built out still?

Yeah, so here, most of these resources here, you don't just learn about Web3 or smart contract development, blockchain technology. You also earn while you learn. So we have some of them here. We have LearnWeb3 DAO, we have, let me search for this.

You have this, you earn when you learn here, they pay you some.

Let me open the link. They pay you in Celo or USD when you learn. As you can see here, they pay you in USDC. So you learn and you earn rewards in USDC or DAI, stablecoins. You earn NEAR token or cUSD. So we also have LearnWeb3 DAO, you also earn on this website when you learn. I think these as well. Most of them you earn either you earn NFT on the completion of any course, or you earn cryptocurrency. Or you earn maybe a badge as NFT badges that you can show as proof of knowledge. So it doesn't it's not necessarily earning cryptocurrency, it could be an NFT as well.

Excellent. And I guess a final question from me is what kind of challenges did you face, if any, while building this? I assume one was just like curating the initial list of resources.

Yeah, the major challenge I faced was how to categorize these resources based on experience level. Number one. And number two was how to store the data. It was a challenge because at the moment I am experienced with front-end development, so I don't really I don't have any idea with back-end development. So I find it very difficult at first how to store this data in data storage. So it was a challenge at the beginning before I made some research and I was like okay I should I'll use JSON as a storage format. But I'm looking for suggestion and feedback on where I can store the data on the back-end on chain or something like that. This is where my major challenge was while building this project.
