GM, GM. Welcome to what's going to be a very special episode of DevNTell. So if you didn't know, DevNTell is a weekly podcast hosted by the Developer DAO and myself, Narb, for founders, weekend hackers, and anyone in between to showcase the fantastic projects they've built. And today, we are going to have a very special episode because we're going to be hosting all the winners of the Rootstock and Developer DAO small grants program. So these folks were all voted by you, the code and NFT holders of Developer DAO. So we're going to be joined by James, Cordy, Nestor, Julio, and Mike, who will be showcasing their demos to us. If you stick around for today's episode, you'll see top-notch showcases of innovative applications built on top of the Rootstock platform. All right, let's get into it.

Oh, sorry, I was muted. I said GM, GM. Welcome to the show, everybody. Happy to have you all on. Yeah, this is going to be a really exciting show. I'm really looking forward to all the awesome projects you guys have built. But before we get into that, let's go roundtable style and do brief introductions about all ourselves. So James, would you like to go first?
Okay. GM, GM. I'm James, a developer from Nigeria. I'm a Developer DAO member and a contributor to the newsletter. I'm a back-end developer, and my tech stack is the MERN stack. I also do Solidity programming. I love writing and I'm a technical writer. Recently, I won the Aptos hackathon for technical writing. I'm proud to be here and hope I do my very best. Thank you.

Hey guys. I've been in the space for about eight years and seen its ups and downs. I have experience writing a newsletter and my own crypto community, the Bitcode Bandits, on Telegram. Besides that, I'm an advisor and a board member and consultant in the space. I've been a Rootstock ambassador for years, one of the OGs. I've been following Rootstock since 2019. It's been a great experience seeing how the space goes and what works. I've built projects as well, and I see a lot of potential with Rootstock as a hub. Now I'm building a project called HNDL. I'm excited to see how this all comes together to bring the whole space together. I believe HNDL is that solution.
Excellent, excellent. We actually met a few months back when you told me about your project, so I'm really excited to see you showcase it here. Welcome to the show. And last but not least, Nestor. Would you like to give a brief intro about yourself?
Yes, GM, GM everyone. Here is Nestor, from Chile, South America. I've been working with over 15 years of experience. I'm a computer engineer, a builder, and also an entrepreneur with experience in AI and big data since the pandemic. Since 2021, I've been working in Web3 and blockchain. I love to build and sell products in Web3. One of the products we are building, I'm going to show to you later today. The idea is to share with the community, learn from the community, and create amazing products. Thank you, Narb, for this opportunity to show our projects.
My pleasure. And excited to have you on the show, Nestor. So just to give an overview for our viewers on how today's format will work, we're going to go roundtable style with each project having a 15 to 20 minute window to showcase basically what they've built. The crowd will also have an opportunity to ask questions, so definitely type those in the comments and we will bring those up. And of course, if our peers here have any questions for the presenter, please keep them and we will bring them up as we go along. All right, so starting at the top of my screen, James, would you like to kick us off?
Okay. My project is a simple one, which is a crowdfunding DApp that is backed by Bitcoin. We all know that traditional crowdfunding lacks accountability sometimes. Funds can be mismanaged after donations. Donors have no control or oversight once funds are sent. Refunds are difficult if goals are unmet.
So my solution is a crowdfunding platform built on the Rootstock network. It introduces donor oversight and accountability. It ensures fund management through milestone-based withdrawal voting. Donors retain control over their contributions until milestones are approved. Key features include project creation where anyone can create a crowdfunding project by specifying a goal, milestones, timeline, and upload documents. Donors contribute funds using rBTC, which is 1:1 pegged to Bitcoin. Funds are locked in a smart contract until milestones are approved. Milestone voting allows donors to vote on whether a milestone is complete. Successful milestones allow the owner to withdraw one-third of the funds. Donor refunds are available anytime before a milestone is approved or the campaign ends.
How it works: For project creation, we have a factory contract using the OpenZeppelin proxy pattern. Each campaign is a separate smart contract. Documents are uploaded to Arweave and indexed with a subgraph as a back-end system to keep track of deployed contracts.
Milestone owners create milestones which are voted on by project donors. Donors have two weeks to vote. An absentia vote is assumed to be a yes vote at the end of the period. For donations, donors retain the ability to withdraw funds if milestones aren't approved. Project owners withdraw funds in three tranches upon milestone approval. The first withdrawal doesn't require a donor vote to allow the project to start.
I was going to do a live demo but noticed the Rootstock graph indexer stopped working recently. However, here's a brief look at the UI. The home page shows total funds, active backers, and created contracts. The project creation page allows specifying category, duration, and documents. The owner dashboard allows creating milestones and withdrawing funds. The donation page shows voting status and contributor details. We also have a metrics page and a full-text search implemented with the subgraph.

Oh yes, what's the hardest thing for you now when it comes to just getting it done? What's the hardest thing when it comes to scaling it?
I think the ability of notifying donors when a milestone has been created. On other chains like Ethereum, you have tools like Chainlink for sending notifications based on on-chain events. It would be nice to have something like that for the Rootstock network. Also, the graph indexer for the Rootstock network, there's only one. It was working last week but suddenly stopped.
Yeah, that's the danger of working with a demo, you never know. Great question, Cordy. Question for me is, what do you see as the next steps for your project, James? How do you see it evolving and what would you like to add on to it after the fact?
The next step would be building it out more completely and trying to make a business out of it. Developing the platform more robustly and adding more features like better project search.

Oh yes, hey guys. Today I'm going to present HNDL. It's a naming solution that connects everything to everything, bridging Web2 to Web3. Rootstock is the perfect hub for that. The best way to get started is just show you guys a three-minute video of how our token-bound account feature works. You can play the video now.
I'm going to go over our token-bound account feature and demonstrate sending rBTC from user A to user B and back. As you can see when you manage the token-bound accounts, each handle name has its own address. With this wallet here, I'm going to send rBTC to user B. I type user B and the amount 0.0003 rBTC and send. Now we wait for the transaction to confirm. Once confirmed, let's check user B. User B has now received 0.0003 rBTC. Now I'll send 0.0002 rBTC from user B back to user A. Once confirmed, you can see the updated balance for user A. Every handle TBA account is a wallet and can receive assets. Possibilities are endless.
Token-bound accounts (ER-6551) are an extension of ERC-721 and allow NFTs to own NFTs and other assets. The space is becoming multi-chain and wallets are connecting to other chains. We're doing this on Rootstock to have that root on Bitcoin. A handle address is a Rootstock address but can eventually connect to every asset under that name. Our names are available for free for five characters or more. For shorter names, there are specific fees in BTC. We also have sub-handles to help people create communities under their names. It's like having a membership subscription for your community.
Let's look at the app. It's functional, though very beta. I'll pick a name, footwear.b, which is free for 8 characters. Once confirmed, footwear.b is now taken and under my account. I can go to my portfolio and manage footwear.b. I'll create a TBA for footwear.b, bringing it to life as its own wallet with address 0x46. This address is different from my main wallet. Now footwear.b can receive and send assets independently. Think of it like AI agents with different skill sets each having its own identity and history on the blockchain.
Beauty. Yeah, so it's basically kind of like ENS, but for Bitcoin, right?
In a way, but with token-bound accounts so each name has its own individual wallet. It's like a basket within a basket.

Sorry, hello everyone again. Let me share my screen to make a pitch for you and show how the project works. Our project is called Monetizado, which means monetize in Spanish. It's a create-to-earn or engage-to-earn protocol. The idea is to monetize any web page or static content in Web2 using Web3.
Why? Because in Web2, the subscription model is complicated. Content creators have to wait many days and pay high fees to get their money from payment gateways. Users often have to pay for a whole month's subscription just to consume one specific piece of content. The creator economy is a huge market, expected to hit over half a trillion dollars by 2030. Monetizado enables any web page to be monetized on-chain in a pay-per-view way.
The product includes contracts on Rootstock testnet and a JavaScript SDK and proxy SDK for integration. Content creators register their content on-chain with a name and amount in rBTC. They receive a unique ID and code to paste into their web page. The SDK detects if a user has paid or needs to pay for the content. It can be used for news, videos, audios, files, blogs, and more. Creators can monetize their whole website or individual pages. We've also built a manager app to create content and collect money.
Here's a demo. I'm using a simple HTML page. This part is exclusive content, and you need to pay to access it. I'll pay 0.00001 rBTC. Once confirmed via MetaMask, the SDK grants access to the content. This is different from existing standards like Web Monetization because we give both creators and users more control. Creators don't need to move their content to a new Web3 platform, they just add our Web3 payments to their existing Web2 content. Our roadmap includes kind of like an NFT for monthly subscriptions. Excellent, you answered my next question as well as what you had planned next. So awesome. Thank you so much, Nestor, this looks very awesome. Last but not least, Julio. Before you get going with your presentation, do you want to give a brief intro about yourself?
Of course, thank you Narb. Yeah, I'm Julio Cruz, a software engineer for more than 15 years, and three years in development in crypto. Now I'm working with Rootstock on a solution that many people have asked me for. Let me present Meeting Value Protocol. The goal is to revolutionize professional meeting management using blockchain technology on Rootstock testnet.
The problem is that in professional meetings, people often book time but don't show up. This is frustrating for DevRel, mentors, and consultants. Manual processes for generating meeting attestations and certificates are also inefficient and prone to errors. Meeting Value Protocol (MVP) uses smart contracts and blockchain for accountability and attendance verification. It automates meeting logistics and provides an immutable record of attendance.
MVP allows creators to set a fee for booking a meeting. If the participant shows up, the smart contract returns the money. If they don't, the money can be sent to a chosen account or public good. We use AI agents for automating tasks like generating attendance reports and PDF certificates. Users log in with social login or MetaMask. The platform manages calendars, schedules meetings, and stores all info on-chain for transparent, data-driven insights.
You can find our repo on GitHub. We've used Next.js, scaffold-eth, Rootstock, and dynamic social login. Here's a look at the app. You can schedule meetings, view your own meetings, and generate certificates. You can set up your profile and availability similar to Calendly. It generates a QR code for your booking page that you can share on social networks. People can then book a time and pay the fee. We are working on full AI integration for voice-to-text task generation. Thank you everyone, you can join our Telegram group for more.
